- Continuity: At the reception at the end of the movie, Mel's dress is clean and dry. But on the beach , immediately beforehand, it was dirty and wet from the storm and sand.
- Continuity: On the beach in the rainstorm, Melanie moves in to kiss Jake with her hand grasping in his face. In the overhead shot, Melanie is throwing both her arms around his neck.
- Continuity: The length of the dark roots in Melanie's blonde hair changes frequently, and sometimes they completely disappear.
- Continuity: The tears on Melanie's face in the cemetery.
- Continuity: When Melanie is walking to the fair, we see a fire truck with "Pigeon Creek Fire Department" on its door with the initials "K.F.D." clearly present on the front right corner of the truck.
- Continuity: While in Tiffany's, Andrew asks about Christmas in Ireland and Melanie says that is four months away, which would mean that it's now August or September. But for most of the rest of the film, everyone in Alabama is in long sleeves. It wouldn't be cold enough for those types of clothes.
- Crew or equipment visible: When Melanie is walking through the battlefield, her sound equipment is visible, tucked into her boot.
- Factual errors: The glass creations made by lightning hitting the sand (also known as fulgurites) do not resemble in any way the ones depicted in the movie. They are actually grainy hollow tubes.
- Revealing mistakes: Jake bumps a gravestone which wiggles back and forth, showing that it is made of a light material such as foam board (apparently it does not wobble as though it were a loosely fixed stone as some have suggested).
- Revealing mistakes: When Jake is driving his truck, the gearshift is visibly up in "park". This is also obvious when Earl is "driving" his truck.
