- Anachronisms: Dirk is wearing flares at the New Years Eve party. Someone as interested in style as Dirk would have been more than aware that they were well and truly out of fashion by then.
- Anachronisms: In the birth scene, an anesthetic machine is seen in the background. On it is a vaporizer for an anesthetic gas called sevoflurane (vaporizers are all colour-coded - sevorane is yellow), but Sevoflurane was not licensed for human use until the early-'80s, some time after the film was set.
- Anachronisms: Jack Horner walks through the kitchen where we see a 5 gallon white bucket, on the side of which is a warning symbol of a type which first appeared in the early 1990s.
- Anachronisms: The $100 bill used to snort the cocaine was not in circulation during the 1970s or 1980s.
- Anachronisms: When Amber and her ex-husband met with the judge over custody in September of 1983, there were portraits of President Reagan and Governor Jerry Brown on the wall. Brown was governor from January 1975 to January 1983, and George Deukmejian had been governor for several months by the time this scene took place.
- Anachronisms: When Buck's station wagon and Jack's limo cross paths in 1983, a "Rent-A-Center" is clearly visible in the background. Rent-A-Center wasn't established until 1986.
- Continuity: At the New Year's Eve Party, before Todd Parker arrives, you can see him in the background wearing different clothes.
- Continuity: Before entering Rahad's house, Todd places a large handgun in his front waistband and it can be clearly seen later as he first approaches Rahad to give him a hug. The gun then disappears and does not reappear until he finally brandishes it.
- Continuity: During the scene at Rahad's house he refers to the mix tape with "Sister Christian" on it as mix tape number 11, yet when the tape clicks off, the cassette says "My Awesome Mix Tape #6".
- Continuity: The window in the red Corvette is shown as being wound down until the gun blast shatters it.
- Continuity: When Dirk and Jesse are filming their porno scene, Dirk has a scarf around his neck that appears and disappears. This is almost certainly deliberate, to show the sloppy production values of the porn film itself.
- Crew or equipment visible: The shadow of first camera assistant Michael G. Riba falls on the side mirror of Scotty's Datsun as he sits in it, crying.
- Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Little Bill is complaining to the cinematographer about his wife having sex with other men he says, "My fucking wife's on the driveway with a fucking ass in her cock."
- Factual errors: At the New Year's Eve party, Todd tells Reed that he made the party because he doesn't work on Sundays. New Year's Eve fell on a Monday in 1979.
- Incorrectly regarded as goofs: "At least one time during the scene at Rahad's house, Cosmo tosses a firecracker and the explosion is visible in the background but no sound is made." In fact, you can hear the fizz of a dud.
